IMMIGRATION MEDICALS
New Zealand

To book an appointment for your Immigration Medical Examination (IME), please call 587-620-3930 and state clearly that you are calling for an immigration medical exam. When you book your appointment, you must let us know if you are applying for a temporary work visa or for a resident visa. If you are applying for a temporary work visa, we need to know how many months you are applying for.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE IME?

You’ll undergo a physical exam. The medical clinic staff will ask you a number of questions, check your documents, measure your height, weight, and vision, take your blood pressure, and collect a sample of your urine for testing. The physician will feel your pulse, check your hearing, listen to your heart and lungs, feel your abdomen, check how your limbs move, and look at your skin.

The physician won’t examine your genitals or rectal area. These parts of the body aren’t required for the immigration medical exam.

The physician may need to examine your breasts. If they do, they will provide you with an explanation of why and how the examination is being done (a female chaperone will always be present in the room together with the physician).

  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO THE CLINIC FOR MY IME APPOINTMENT?

    1. Those applying for immigration to New Zealand must necessarily have a passport with them on the day of their IME. Without a passport, we will not process your application, and we will ask you to come back once you have them with you. No exceptions are made under any circumstance!

    2. You must also bring proof of your address in Canada, such as an Alberta driver's license or a bank statement with your name and full address, and you must provide us with an email address.

    3. Eyeglasses or contact lenses, if you wear them.

    4. Any medical results or test reports that you have for any previous or existing medical conditions.

    5. Please bring with you a list of your current medications, including the name, dosage, and how many times per day you take each medication.

  • HOW MUCH DOES THE IME COST?

The cost of the IME is $230 per person, regardless of age and country of origin or nationality.

PLEASE, NOTE THAT THE FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE; ONCE YOU PAY, THE MONEY WILL NOT BE RETURNED TO YOU AND NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE TO THIS RULE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

The cost for the IME appointment at Cranston Ridge Medical Clinic (CRMC) does not include the price for the chest X-ray (CXR) and the blood test. Applicants 10 years of age and above require a chest X-ray, which costs around $65; however, this is subject to change and in the future it may increase. Ask Pureform Radiology in advance for the exact price. When the patient arrives for their CXR, Pureform Radiology collects the payment, not CRMC.

Applicants 14 years of age and above require also a blood test. Though the price for blood tests may vary, the price range is around $300; however, this is subject to change and in the future it may increase. Ask the laboratory in advance for the exact price.

  • HOW LONG WILL THE IME TAKE?

The visit will last approximately 30 minutes per applicant. However, in some circumstances, an IME may take longer than 30 minutes. Make sure you do not have any appointment booked for the entirety of the day of your IME.

  • WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE IME?

Once the exam is done, the physician will send the results directly to Immigration New Zealand. The doctor will give you a document confirming that you had a medical exam. The document contains an NZHR number (for New Zealand). Keep this with you as proof of your medical exam and upload it on the immigration portal of New Zealand. Every time you communicate with your New Zealand immigration officer about your Immigration Medical Exam, you must always reference this number in the correspondence. Failure to reference this number may see your application refused and your visa declined.

BELOW IS THE INFORMATION FOR YOUR CHEST X-RAY AND YOUR BLOOD TESTS:

  • BLOOD TESTS: After the chest x-ray, you will have to go to complete your blood test (if you have been given a requisition for this by this clinic; otherwise, you do not have to). If you wish to do this on a walk-in basis, you must go to the laboratory at 180 Rivercrest Dr SE, Suite 180, Calgary. The average waiting time at this location is 60-90 minutes. Alternatively, you may choose to book an appointment by clicking here and selecting "Immigration" on the list on the web page.

The cost of the X-ray and blood test is not included in the IME fee you pay to Cranston Ridge Medical Clinic. You must pay for the X-ray and blood test directly at the radiology clinic and the laboratory, respectively.
