IMMIGRATION MEDICALS
Canada

To book an appointment for your Immigration Medical Examination (IME), please call 587-620-3930, and state clearly that you are calling for an immigration medical exam.

  • WHAT SHOULD I EXPECT DURING THE IME?

You’ll undergo a physical exam. The medical clinic staff will ask you a number of questions, check your documents, measure your height, weight, and vision, take your blood pressure, and collect a sample of your urine for testing. The physician will feel your pulse, check your hearing, listen to your heart and lungs, feel your abdomen, check how your limbs move, and look at your skin.

The physician won’t examine your genitals or rectal area. These parts of the body aren’t required for the immigration medical exam.

The physician may need to examine your breasts. If they do, they will provide you with an explanation of why and how the examination is being done (a female chaperone will always be present in the room together with the physician).

  • WHAT SHOULD I BRING WITH ME TO THE CLINIC FOR MY IME APPOINTMENT?

    1. Please bring your passport or national identity card with you on the day of your Immigration Medical Exam (IME). If you do not have a passport, you can use a Canadian driver's licence in lieu of a passport. If you have a currently valid passport, you must bring your passport with you anyway. Driver's licences from all other countries are not accepted.  Without these documents, we will not process your application, and we will ask you to come back once you have them with you. No exceptions are made under any circumstance!

    2. You must also bring proof of your address in Canada, such as an Alberta driver's license or a bank statement with your name and full address.

    3. Eyeglasses or contact lenses, if you wear them.

    4. Any medical results or test reports that you have for any previous or existing medical conditions.

    5. Please bring with you a list of your current medications, including the name, dosage, and how many times per day you take each medication.

    6. If you have proof of a previous COVID-19 vaccination, bring it; the panel physician will include this record with your exam.

  • HOW MUCH DOES THE IME COST?

The cost of the IME is $230 per person, regardless of age and country of origin or nationality.

PLEASE, NOTE THAT THE FEE IS NON-REFUNDABLE; ONCE YOU PAY, THE MONEY WILL NOT BE RETURNED TO YOU AND NO EXCEPTIONS WILL BE MADE TO THIS RULE UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE.

All applicants, except those eligible for the Interim Federal Health Program (IFHP), are responsible for paying all fees and costs associated with their IME. It is important to note that, in Canada, the IFHP only covers the cost of one IME and related tests. There are three types of documents that show that an individual may be eligible under IFHP in Canada. Individuals must show one of these documents to their healthcare provider at each visit:

  • Refugee Protection Claimant Document (RPCD)

  • Interim Federal Health Certificate (IFHC)

  • Acknowledgement of Claim and Notice to Return for Interview letter (AOC).

  • HOW LONG WILL THE IME TAKE?

The visit will last approximately 30 minutes per applicant. However, in some circumstances, an IME may take longer than 30 minutes. Make sure you do not have any appointment booked for the entirety of the day of your IME.

  • WHAT HAPPENS AT THE END OF THE IME?

Once the exam is done, the physician will send the results directly to IRCC. The doctor will give you a document confirming that you had a medical exam. The document contains an IME number. Keep this with you as proof of your medical exam and upload it on the immigration portal of Canada. Every time you communicate with the IRCC about your Immigration Medical Exam, you must always reference this number in the correspondence. Failure to reference this number may see your application refused and your visa declined.

BELOW IS THE INFORMATION FOR YOUR CHEST X-RAY AND YOUR BLOOD TESTS:

  • BLOOD TESTS: After the chest x-ray, you will have to go to complete your blood test (if you have been given a requisition for this by this clinic; otherwise, you do not have to). If you wish to do this on a walk-in basis, you must go to the laboratory at 180 Rivercrest Dr SE, Suite 180, Calgary. The average waiting time at this location is 60-90 minutes. Alternatively, you may choose to book an appointment by clicking here and selecting "Immigration" on the list on the web page.

The cost of the X-ray and blood test is not included in the IME fee you pay to Cranston Ridge Medical Clinic. You must pay for the X-ray and blood test directly at the radiology clinic and the laboratory, respectively.
